A resident based in Sacramento released their frustrations via Tiktok about the decades of landscape design of a neighbor who continues to do chaos on their garden: to plant bamboo. What seemed like an exotic note in the yard has since turned into annoyance and devastated the resident's home plant garden.
Jessie Dickson (@sacramentofoodforest) says it should be illegal to sell bamboo. At first glance, bamboo may appear like a cool, tropical addition to a garden, but it is actually extremely invasive. Bamboo spreads underground through rhizomes and appears where they are not sought – through fences, over lines of property, even concrete.

Rhizomes are plantiels that grow horizontally, either on or directly below the surface of the ground, and are known for their ability to reproduce without pollination, and it enables the plant to spread quickly and in general. And as soon as it is in there, it is a nightmare to get out.

Invasive plant species such as this bamboo are a significant threat to ecosystems. They have often taken over native species for light, water and nutrients and disrupt the local biodiversity.
