Relax green roofs The Emma Willard School recently joined to reveal its new Alice Dodge Wallace '38 Center for the Performing Arts, an important campus development that combines modern educational areas with deep commitment to sustainability. This project, part of Emma Willard's long -term vision to improve his historical campus, includes lively new facilities for art, music and performance and at the same time includes innovative green infrastructure to support the school's environmental goals.
An essential feature of the expansion is a 13,000 square meter, fully accessible green roof, which is recovered by green roofs. The Hydrotech Latetop Lawn system is graceful from the ground, arches above the new, underground part of the Wallace Center Arts Wing and seamlessly combines with the newly renovated entrance and the border between built environment and natural landscape.
“This project is the best thing that green roofs can offer – functionality, beauty and sustainability, while they serve as an active, accessible space for students.” said Mark WintererPresent Co -founder and owner of restoring green roofs. “It is a perfect example of how living architecture can not only improve a building, but also an entire campus experience.”
The cultivation group of the green roof has a layered system typical of a protected membrandach, including root barrier, six inch plazamate -XPS insulation, Hydrotech's GR50 drainage aggregate and at least eight inch litop lawn media, which are ended with local Bluegrass -SOD.
In addition to the expansive lawn, Recover has installed 1,100 square meters of intensive pollinating hardships with floor depths of up to 14 inches, which promotes the biological diversity and ecological learning opportunities for the students.

David Elzer Aia, project architect at Annum given, “The green roof in the Wallace Center is one of the most important aspects of this project. After we were able to adapt and expand a large stone structure in the center of the Emma Willard School Campus, we knew how important it was to respect its historical environment. We chose a simple, low grass roof that touches the floor on both sides, fits into the landscape and can enjoy an inviting new “slope” for everyone. “
With regard to the cooperation and the intended results, Elzer announced, “Recreation of Green roofs was a great partner through the construction, from the stage builders, from the optimization of the roof assembly and the administration of the costs up to their expert installation, when the project was completed. One of the greatest satisfaction of this project was to observe how the roof was literally alive when the grass was installed and then see how quickly the students enjoyed with this unique campus and were enjoyed. “
Consigli Construction Co., Inc. directed the construction of the project and coordinated several subcontractors and trading partners to ensure that the performance standards of the building match the sustainability mission by Emma Willard.
