Seattle fences correct day crime, residents notice changes

Seattle installs chain-link fences in alleys in the city center to contain the crime, reduce illegal activities a day and to improve security. However, after sunset there are further.

Seattle-Chain-Link fences are now blocking several alleys in downtown Seattle because the city officials react to symptoms of crime, including drug use and fires of open-air drugs and alleys.

The fences installed at the Seattle Police Department and the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) are legal according to the city law, so that civil servants can limit access to alleys on the basis of criminal activities, uncertain structures or health risks. Signs on the fences warn that the transfer of fines of up to 1,000 or 90 days in prison. Residents, workers, pension companies and first aiders have access.

Residents like Julia Beabout say that the difference is noticeable this summer. Beaufout, who has been living in the region for eight years, said she still sees challenges, but the fences have contributed to reducing the illegal activities of the time of day.

“We are constantly working with the agencies and the city that deal with these things, and it is just an infinite saga that we want to get better,” said Beachout. “It was surprisingly effective. I feel affordable, it is simple, it is human and we may have had dozens of people in our alleys one or two occasionally.”

At least one restaurant owner said that the fences had improved security during the day. The employees occasionally saw drug use and even cars that quickly drove through the alleys.

Despite progress, Beabout said that the problem will return after sunset.

“It is at night. It is predictable at this time,” she said.

According to Lifelong Seattleite Vince Deblasio, the area that led to Pike Place was his favorite walk. Now he picks up the pace.

“I'm still going through, but it's no longer the same,” he said.
