Sharabati launches Twillis, the new gabardine division

As part of the last Munich Fabric Start edition, the global premium jeans and flat manufacturer Sharabati presented an initial selection of fabrics from its newly founded Twillis department.

A “sneak peek” of the new project has been announced for the S/S 2026 season, but a more structured and complete offer will be officially presented for F/W 2026 and the next round of textile fairs.

“Sharabati already offered a selection of gabardines and ready-to-dye fabrics, although their image and characteristics have always been tied primarily to a denim and casual identity,” explained Matteo Vallarsa, newly hired head of Sharabati’s twillis division and experienced textile consultant .

“Following a recent significant investment, the company has purchased some new specialist machinery to produce high quality fabrics such as twill, flats, poplin, gabardine and ready-to-dye fabrics. It is the first business unit focused on this type of fabric opened in Egypt and aimed at an upscale consumer, a goal that Sharabati had never achieved with such a dedicated department,” Vallarsa continued.

The new selection will be manufactured at the company's Egyptian subsidiary, where denim is already produced.

It will initially comprise 120 SKUs and will focus on the same eco-friendly manufacturing criteria as the company's denim, using natural fibers such as regenerating cotton, linen, hemp and Tencel, all GOTS certified, as well as a small portion made from, among others recycled fibers such as PET are produced others.

The company now offers four product groups whose names are inspired by numbers, such as “N.1”, for high-end products, “9 to 5”, for workwear, “24/7”, for all day and that whole year. a week and “Infinity” for endless uses, including fluid, multi-purpose clothing made from a variety of fibers.

The new department houses a spinning facility that will work with “60/1 Ne” Giza cotton, the highest quality variety for cotton fabrics, the weight of which will range between 150 g/m² and 350 g/m².

Sharabati's total annual production capacity is 140 million meters, of which 70% is denim and 30% is gabardine and RFD. The aim of the newly founded Twillis division is to achieve an additional production capacity of at least 20 million meters.
