Gumla: Solar fences are set up around 13 villages in the Bharno block of the district to shorten conflicts between people, forest officials said. The project, which is implemented on a pilot basis, could be enlarged in the coming months depending on the result.“Elephants live in Bharno forests last year. There are many human settlements in the region. Although only three lives were lost between 2021 and 2023, the project was introduced as a precaution in the future to avert such conflicts,” Ahmed Belal told. The fence extends over 13 kilometers and comprises 13 villages. In the fence, poles are connected to wires. “The electricity will flow with a low voltage and the elephants will get a non -fatal jerk if it comes into contact with the wires and forces them to retreat,” he added.“The fences covers a total of 13 km in length, covering 13 villages. A km periphery of each village is fenced in solar,” he said, adding that they are replaced with a low voltage rod hanging wire with low voltage rod fruits, which means that elephants are withdrawn after contact.
