Modern design reacts to wild nature
Studio SaxeThe design for the Rio Perdido West Bungalows is an example of architecture that reacts intuitively to its surroundings. Hidden in the ecologically rich city of the bags, Costa RicaThe website itself was once difficult to access and hid between two converging canyons. Here the cool water of the Rio Blanco hits the warmer currents of the Rio Perdido. In this flawless natural landscape, Studio Saxe, floating pavilions that blur the boundaries between architecture and nature and offer guests an urgent experience in this rare corner of the world.
The design concept was to create a place that coexists with its surroundings and at the same time maintains a level of comfort and privacy. Each bungalow is increased on slim pilotis to ensure that rainwater and wild animals continue their natural course underneath. This minimal contact with the country enables the forest and the river to remain undisturbed and at the same time create a space in which the prospects are omnipresent. Frameless glass walls offer panorama views of the surrounding canyon, while the design takes information from the cultural and natural legacy of Costa Rica and creates an experience that connects visitors to the country in an inconspicuous way.

Rio Perdido swims between the trees
Conceptualized by the Rio Perdido – West Bungalow, the Architect At Studio Saxe, a reserved design strategy used. A stone wall acts as a visual barrier and a connection to the country, brings privacy for guests and frames the view of the canyon and harbors the structure within the topography of the location. The bungalows should promote a dialogue between common and private spaces. The strategic placement enables every room to open on expansive terraces or to shield them through thoughtful partitions. A discreet separation between the bedroom and bathroom enables privacy and at the same time preserves the natural flow of the room with a large uninterrupted window that framed the canyon views and brings nature into the heart of the interior.
Interior designer Dania Saragovia brings a warm and inviting character to every bungalow with a palette of natural materials and woven textures that complement the architectural style. Your decisions, which include a number of tactile materials, improve the feeling of connection to the environment and at the same time get a quiet atmosphere. The warmth of the colors and the simplicity of the design invite you to relax and reflect and contribute to creating a holistic, haunting experience that feels like an expansion of the landscape outside.

Sustainable bungalows from Studio Saxe
Sustainability is the core of the Studio Saxe Rio Perdido – West Bungalows, whereby every decision was made to minimize the environmental impact. The structures float over the forest floor, preserve the natural flow of the country and let wild animals run freely. Long roof overlavations reduce the profit of the sun's heat and protect against the heavy rains of Costa Rica and support passive cooling strategies that reduce energy consumption. Materials from the region, such as wood and stone, reinforce the commitment to environmental responsibility and ensure that the structures with their surroundings are in harmony. This deep respect for the ecological integrity of the website is a defining feature of the project.
The bungalows in Rio Perdido adapt to the sloping area, whereby each structure is carefully designed in such a way that they react to the different heights and conditions of the site. Studio Saxe used preliminary manufacturing techniques to optimize the construction and to minimize the disturbance of the fragile ecosystem to ensure that the effect of the project was as easy as possible. Despite the modern materials used, the buildings have a strong connection to regional craftsmanship, which reinforces the local character of the design. The result is a contemporary tropical architecture that brings modernity into harmony with sustainability.
