What opportunities do you see in 2025?
We have a few things to look forward to – we're moving to a new version of our commercial sustainability certification, Green Star, which will help create even better low-carbon spaces. Many of our customers do not build new buildings, but rather equip their offices with a new design. We are looking for feedback on how the equipment can contribute to health, wellbeing and sustainability. We look forward to hearing from the industry and enabling more offices to create better workplaces for people. There are still a number of actions the Government can and should take to enable our sector to do more on climate achievement and we will offer the Government the opportunity to improve network resilience and operational costs to reduce Kiwi families and businesses. In particular, the H1 consultation provides an opportunity to have new homes built to address the risk of overheating, a growing issue facing many New Zealand families.
What will it take to stimulate the New Zealand economy?
The loss of government contracts was huge for the construction sector. We must ensure that a robust pipeline of infrastructure and housing projects is supported and enabled to continue.
How will a Trump presidency impact geopolitical dynamics?
It's unclear how dramatically the change in presidency will affect things. However, he has already signaled a backtrack on key ongoing climate protection measures – namely the Inflation Reduction Act.
What specific measures has your company taken to curb climate change?
We continue to help the sector develop by providing a growing number of construction professionals with resources, training and events aimed at reducing operating costs, reducing emissions and creating impressive, healthy buildings.
How do you increase diversity in your company?
Although we are a small team of around 30 people, we are fortunate to have employees from Australasia, Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, Russia and North America. We benefit from a variety of different cultures, backgrounds, ages and genders – and will continue to provide a welcoming environment for all.
What is your New Year's resolution?
In 2025, I want to make more companies aware of the benefits of great buildings. Personally, I enjoy the commute, so my goal for this year is to get off the bike and put on sneakers more regularly. This is good for you, the environment and no traffic!
Where and how are you vacationing this summer?
I will be camping in the beautiful nature of Aotearoa. Wish us good luck and sunny days.
What would you recommend as a good podcast for the summer?
The rest is politics or short history of it. This helps with children's tricky history questions.
