Anchorage, Alaska (Ktuu) – The Department of Fish and Game from Alaska (ADF & G) begins an initiative to provide homeowners about the advantages of electrical fences according to a number of reports on the encounters of bears on real estate.
This happens after several reports on bears that attack chicken co -ops in June. In the weeks since then, brown bearers have dropped to the normal level on private properties on private properties.
“We don't get nearly as many reports that the bears get into chicken materials,” said Cory Stantorf, biologist for the Ankerplatz department.
Stantorf also said that the department is now monitoring a sow that was caught in front of the camera, how it exceeded a chicken coop, as is now supposedly injured.
“We start a few more reports that it is stopped by electrical fences that work – and protect this cattle,” said Stantorf. “This does not mean that it is more or less aggressive at the moment than any other bear in the landscape.”
“This only emphasizes that people should always give a wide berth regardless of the animal and its status,” he said, “and treat it with a lot of respect.”
While Fish and Game said that it would continue to monitor the condition of the sow and reports on the encounters of bears in general, it also encourages the residents of Anchorage to find out about how to deal with bears in their properties.
“The greatest thing is when you have interactions or sightings to definitely notify the Anchorage Fisch and Spielbüro,” said Stantorf. “Let us know what this interaction was.”
ADF & G will organize an educational seminar in Kincaid Chalet on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The event is accessible to the public and the participants will be given demonstrations on how bear spray and electrical fences can be used properly.
