The long-closed Franklin Square Station is about to return to the Hi Speedline of Patco between South Jersey and Philadelphia.

Officials announced a ceremony on April 3 at noon to mark the revival of the train station in 7th and Rennstrasse in the city. The train service is to be resumed this afternoon.

It is the first stop for drivers to cross Benjamin Franklin Bridge Tracks to Philadelphia and the 14th Station for Patco. The 14.2-mile railway line runs from Camden to Lindenwold in South Jersey.

The station, which came until 1936, was originally part of a “bridge line” that Camden's Broadway connected with 8th and market in Philadelphia, as can be seen from a history of Patco.

“Although its use was intermittent over the years, the station was last subjected to a great renovation in the 1970s, which was reopened during the United States's two hundred years,” it said.

The one-off inludes from Franklin Square since 1979 has returned after a revision of $ 29.3 million, Patco said in a statement on Wednesday. “We are proud of the transformation of the station,” said John D. Rink, General Manager of Patco.

The three -year renovation project made the station completely compliant and added an elevator, a escalator and ramps. The mechanical, electrical and communication systems of the station have also been updated.

In addition, the station has “environmentally friendly improvements such as a green roof to manage rainwater outflow, bird-friendly glass in order to reduce bird collisions and energy-efficient LED lighting in the entire ward”.

The station retains its original green and white U -Bahn tiles that have been cleaned and restored.

The reopening takes place near the districts, which also include Chinatown, “growth”, according to Patco's explanation.

Patco found that the new station should also offer “a convenient connection” to the Rittenhouse Square, which is located near Patco's Last City Station in the 16th and Locust Street.
