A library ladder attached to a dark wood bookshelf rolls along a section of wall of a ranch-style home in Massapequa.
The floor-to-ceiling bookshelf “adds a lot of character to the house,” said agent Katherine Ciavarella, who listed the home with Silvia Jungs for Signature Premier Properties.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom Suffolk Road home is on the market for $895,000. Taxes on the 0.23-acre property, which is part of the Massapequa School District, total $14,560.

Built in 1956, the house is 1,958 square feet, according to Nassau County property records. In recent years, Ciavarella and Junge said the current owners have updated the mechanical systems, refreshed the paint and replaced windows.
According to the listing, the home has central air conditioning, forced air and hot water heating systems.
“Sylvia always says, '8 seconds, people come in the house, they know if they like it,'” Ciavarella said. “You don’t even have to enter the house and you immediately know that it’s something special.”
Outside, a covered patio at the front of the house provides space that the owners have used as a seating and dining area, the agents said.
“When you walk in, you’re already part of the living space because you have an outdoor patio,” said Jungs.

Just a few meters away, the doors of a two-car garage are made of one-way glass: an insider can see through them, but an outsider cannot.
Junge said potential buyers told her they felt like they were on vacation when they visited the home. The open living space features high ceilings, plenty of natural light and a wood-burning fireplace, agents say.
The master bedroom has a bathroom with double sinks and sliding doors that lead to the yard, Ciavarella added. The property has a rear and side garden and two sheds.
An area currently used as a mudroom—which also includes a laundry area and an adjacent sink—features a wall of windows that frames views of a side patio.
“They want to spend a stay there,” Ciavarella said.
