The British AI, Fnyal Clark, outlines the ACTIPACTION ACTIONS ACTIONS AND ARE ONLY ARE ONLY STARE INSTOVATION, Investments, Investments and Cooperation in various sectors to ensure that the advantages of AI are accessible to all municipalities.
In recent years, the United Kingdom has developed into an important player in the landscape of global artificial intelligence (AI) and has developed into a center of innovation and technological progress. The government's proactive approach emphasizes its commitment to use the transformative potential of the AI in various sectors, as the determination of the AI -Portunity action plan has shown. This initiative not only aims to strengthen the position of the United Kingdom as a leader in the AI, but also to ensure that the advantages of this technology are accessible to all municipalities.
The potential of artificial intelligence is almost revolutionary and offers essential advantages in several sectors. From improving the healthcare system with quick diagnostics and personalized treatment plans to optimize the manufacturing processes and the improvement of efficiency in supply chains, AI enables new options. It can promote economic growth and enrich the quality of life and pave the way for a more intelligent and more networked future.
In order to further investigate the Great Britain's AI landscape, the Minister for KI, Fnyal Clark, from the Department of Science, Industry and Technology, current AI progress, specific applications in various sectors and cooperation that are required for sustainable growth and prosperity.
How would you evaluate the current landscape of artificial intelligence in Great Britain?
The British AI sector flourishes. The value of 72.3 billion GBP in 2024 is now third worldwide, only behind the USA and China. We are a real global hub for AI innovation and development and accommodate first -class universities and the latest research institutions. That is why leading companies such as Anthropic, Openaai and Palantir London have selected for their European headquarters. But we aim higher.
Since taking office we have seen 44 billion GBP in AI investments in Great Britain. With our AI Opportunity Action Plan, we are working to ensure that every corner of the UK is ensured on the advantages of AI.
Can you summarize the AI -Opportunity action plan and the reasons for the development?
Artificial intelligence is the crucial opportunity of our generation and is already changing life today. The AI Opportunity Action Plan is our blueprint to use this moment for Great Britain. The plan was commissioned by the technology secretary as one of his first acts in the government, which was developed by Matt Clifford, the advisor to the Prime Minister for AI opportunities. The prime minister accepted each of them and signaled the determination of this government to embed AI at the center of our change plan – to increase prosperity, increase the standard of living and to build tomorrow's companies here in Great Britain.
For this purpose, we support the AI campaign plan of the KI -Portunity with three important pillars: the basics that enable the introduction and development of AI; Change life by encouraging companies and the public to use AI; And securing our long-term future as a global AI power with a strong, local sector.
Could you state examples of sector-specific AI applications that are particularly promising in Great Britain?
In the healthcare system, AI now supports every stroke center in England and supports doctors by reading acute brain scans and halving more than the time it takes to bring patients from almost six hours to a little more than two hours. It helps us to diagnose and treat cancer cases faster than ever before. By using AI, the researchers also carry out pioneering work to provide new medication that deals with diseases that have so far been considered untreatable. In classrooms, teachers use AI tools to create teaching plans and freed them to spend more time with the students and less for paperwork.
Thanks to the steps that we have already taken, we have included investments worth 44 billion GBP in our AI sector since our government. This will not only help to expand our economy if we also create new jobs and new opportunities for every British citizen.
Can you enter the role of cooperation between the government, science and industry when introducing AI Opportunity Action Plan?
Our action plan sets an ambitious goal and calls for a real partnership in the entire public sector and in the industry to deliver it. We have not wasted time since their introduction – industry and local managers have already submitted more than 200 expressions of interest for AI growth zones from every corner of Great Britain. These zones will be called innovation zones, revive the communities by attracting billions in private investments, creating state -of -the -art jobs and strengthening the UK space at the head of the AI.
The AI Energy Council is the other crucial strand of this work. We bring managers from the energy and technology sectors and supervisory authorities together in order to accelerate renewable solutions and ensure that the network is willing to supply the country's AI ambitions with electricity.
To what extent should Britain position themselves as the world's leading provider in the AI? What competitive advantages do you believe in Great Britain and what challenges do you predict when achieving this status?
Great Britain is already the third largest AI market in the world, which is driven by research at four of the ten top universities in the world and led by local pioneers, two of which have only collected Nobel Prices for AI last year. This depth of the talent is agreed by a government that is determined to use the technology for the growth of turbi loading and to increase the standard of living by our change plan. We draw every lever of the state to implement all 50 recommendations of the KI -Portunity action plan and to make Britain a natural home for companies that want to invent, scale and thrive.
We have already made great progress to make Great Britain a global hub for investments and to bring in a private back worth 44 billion GBP since we take office last summer. This includes Vantage Data Centers, NSCALE and Kyngryl, which have invested in 14 billion GBP to build up the AI infrastructure that the UK needs to use the potential of this technology and to deliver 13,250 jobs throughout the UK.
However, we are not blind to the fact that the AI develops at an incredible pace, which is why we are now creating the basics to capture future waves of opportunities and to build our domestic AI sector so that we can continue to be a leading market leader in this area in the coming years.
What are the most important milestones for the AI -Portunity action plan? How is success measured and which indicators are used to pursue progress in the AI landscape?
Later this year we will determine a ten-year computing strategy that calculates the sovereign 20 times and delivers a new supercomputer that can play half a million chess games per second. This firepower will accelerate the discoveries from laboratories and in hospital stations and production lines and lead to new medication and faster growth in modern research. We will also make considerable progress with our AI growth zones. The next host sites will be announced this summer to target shovels in the ground before the end of the year. We want these programs to unlock billions of investments and deliver thousands of specialist runs.
Together, these steps will help us provide changed public services and to promote economic growth across the country. In cooperation with Skills England, we will also publish a detailed assessment of the skills and help us identify all gaps in our talent pool so that we humans can have the skills for jobs both in and with AI.
