The PSOE of Teguise is calling on the municipal government, made up of Coalición Canaria (CC), the Partido Popular (PP) and Vox, to adopt a series of measures to “preserve, maintain and beautify” the municipality. Among the proposals that the Socialists are presenting for this Thursday's plenary session are therefore measures for the roads to Costa Teguise, the municipality's roundabouts and the municipality's public buildings themselves.
The Socialists have pointed out that Costa Teguise, as the main tourist center of the municipality and city with the largest population (more than 9,000 people), has more entrances to the largest palm grove on the island. This area therefore has numerous green spaces that, according to deputy spokesperson Jenifer Galán, have unfortunately “suffered for years from progressive deterioration that requires a solution”. “We also observe,” Galán continues, “fences of urban skeletons in a deplorable state, graffiti, trimmed palm trees, ruins such as the old tennis courts, bases of missing lampposts, etc.”
“This postcard must be turned over, both at the main entrance that connects Arrecife to Costa Teguise and at the access from Tahíche to Costa Teguise via the road that borders the golf course,” says the city council. All this justifies the proposal of the socialist team that a comprehensive beautification plan should be urgently prepared and implemented for the main entrances or “entrance gates” of the city of Costa Teguise.
Another request from the PSOE goes in the same direction. In this case, the Socialists point out “the lack of tact with the aesthetics of urban roundabouts, 67, the second largest municipality with the highest number of these transport elements, many of which are in a state of significant neglect.”
The party points out that “they are visible to all citizens: weeds not removed, lack of lighting, curbs in poor condition, etc.”, explains the city council, which takes care to expose and highlight these deteriorating elements, “which are becoming the usual image of both tourist and rural towns in our municipality; we can in particular the last roundabout on Avenida de las Islas Canarias in Mention Costa Teguise; in Tahíche, the roundabout on Calle Agustín de La Hoz; or in Nazareth, Calle Las Perdices.”
“It is urgent,” says the socialist city councilor, “to preserve and beautify our roundabouts, including with the possibility of adding a decorative element or sculpture to recognize a significant person or organization in our community, to make use of the space while recognizing merit.”
Measures against municipal public buildings and 25N
In a different order, the Socialists will urge the government group to draw up an action plan for municipal public buildings, because for some time now “we have been observing how the magnificent presentation card of our meticulous architecture, which has always attracted the admiration of our visitors, is showing worrying signs of neglect,” as councilor David Asorey assures.
The Socialist Party in Teguise points out that “a bad example in this regard are the numerous urban public buildings that watch time pass without taking the necessary decoration, conservation and maintenance measures to keep them immaculate.” Likewise, the City Council points out the state of the “Town Hall itself, the building that houses the technical office in La Villa, the “small theater” (including its leaks), several teleclubs, etc., but also other buildings used by the City Council under cooperation agreements, such as the Monastery of Santo Domingo, are in a very state of improvement, and it has been since some time ago, not just “a little paint and sanding of his doors and windows.” is also expected.”
Finally, and in commemoration of the International Day against Violence against Women, celebrated every year on November 25th, and given that this social scourge remains latent in our society, the PSOE will finally propose to the plenary session the ratification of the Teguise City Council's firm commitment to gender equality, women's rights and the elimination of all forms of violence against women, all forms of violence against women reject and express our commitment to the victims.
In addition to the institutional declaration, the Socialists will propose the development of an annual program of intergenerational events and actions to raise public awareness of this problem and promote collaboration with civil society institutions and associations fighting against gender-based violence.
As always, the PSOE of Teguise and La Graciosa invites citizens to follow the plenary session next Thursday, November 2nd at 9 a.m. either in person at the Convent of Santo Domingo in La Villa or through the website Teguise.es
