Stephen Burks brings a lively integration of global craft traditions in contemporary design. His practice bridges continents and cultures and brings a humanly centered, deeply collaborative ethos into projects with large international brands. His last appearance in Toronto –Man made Toronto (2012), presented by WCP after the debut in the Studio Museum in Harlem – was a milestone. The return of Burks builds up with Thelma Golden on the first lecture of last year and further expands the conversation about black creativity and design.

The winners of the 2023 recipients of the Canada Council for the Arts Prix de Rome in architecture, Lapiste and Cousins ​​Wilson are known for a courageous, first-time approach for the built environment. Her work is critical of the role of architecture: Who it serves, how it is structured and its power to repair and strengthen communities.
