Soroush Pourhashemi, founder of custom furniture studio Lozi, is no stranger to designing for small spaces. Just a short walk from his workshop in Hackney, he has created a tranquil and beautifully considered apartment that perfectly embodies intelligent design, sustainable craftsmanship and timeless style.

Soroush's home is in a boutique development overlooking Haggerston Park. Completed in 2020 by Shoreditch-based developer Artform in collaboration with interior designers Scenesmith, the project aimed to redefine what life could be like in a purpose-built apartment block – combining thoughtful design, considered materials and a strong sense of character. Soroush and the Lozi team were involved from the start, creating bespoke kitchens and wardrobes for all nine apartments.

Soroush didn't originally plan to move in, but after seeing the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into the project, he decided to make one of the apartments his own. Staying there soon provided the perfect opportunity to test his designs in a real home environment.
Over time, he introduced a series of bespoke pieces – a multi-tiered record player that maximizes vertical space, a bed with generous hidden storage and discreet shoe storage cleverly integrated into the narrow hallway. Each piece is purposeful yet beautifully understated.
At just 48 square meters, this apartment is a small miracle. Thoughtful floor plans, clever joinery and modular furniture ensure every inch serves its purpose without compromising on style. A coffee table doubles as a desk; slim shelf with gently curved edges fits perfectly into tight corners; and natural light streams through large windows that frame the green view of the park.
It's a space that works hard but feels effortlessly calm and cohesive – proof that living in a small space can be both beautiful and functional.
