I saw watches with buckles, closures, Velcro fasteners and even magnetic closure – but I've never seen anything like this.
This watch by the Swiss architect, Johan Link, who is fairly simply referred to as the “watch concept”, researches something fascinating. The clock opens and closes on the body, which means that the body is literally its “closure”, with a two -part outer shell that opens to reveal an acrylic nucleus that contains the clock inside.

Words do not do justice to Johan's watch concept, but the GIF above shows its new “closure” mechanism perfectly. Most watch closures are three -part links on the lower side of the string. Johan shifts the entire connection and integrates them into the body of the watch. This means that the case with the clock divides into two parts. When you are closed, you have a watch that is “caught” in its metal shell.
Link's aesthetics is quite metallic, with a watch that hides most of the clock inside and only reveals the hands by a donut-shaped neckline. The strap also has a metallic finish, and when they are closed, they really have a watch that has a hard time minimalism. However, open the closure and understand how much detail hides behind this minimalist facade.
The inner core of the watch is located in a transparent acrylic shell and reflects the attractiveness of these aggressively arched sapphire glass pieces, which can be seen on most high-end watches. You printed the digits directly on the glass, with a yellow watch hand under this contrast wonderfully against the black watch face. On the back you will see the movement of the watch, which is clearly visible behind the acrylic facade. An excerpt on the metal housing on the back acts as a kind of exhibition window. The clock crown is located at 3 a.m., and if there is a complaint that I have, the crown hides in the metal housing, which does not make it accessible.
You can wear the clock as you would do it regularly, cling to your wrist or open it to see the time in your palm as you would hold a pocket watch. Johan's watch concept is nothing functionally superior, but watches are more about art, fashion and expression than pure specifications and functions. According to this metric, Johan's experiment is quite a winner, which leads to a watch that looks unique and feels. The design may be conceptual for the time being, but you know that it is also a technical masterpiece, since Johan's roots in Switzerland, the epicenter of Haute Horology, are.
