Metallic surfaces such as copper and gold have enjoyed great popularity in recent years. But most of the interior trends are cyclical, which means that they come and go, and metals are no exception. Instead, the design world now includes warm materials that better combine our houses with nature.
The natural decor – inspired by the desire to invite nature into our houses – has a big moment, and the outstanding material is wood. However, we not only see wood in living rooms and bedrooms, but in every room in the house. Wooden cabinets are building their place in the kitchens of designers and homeowners alike, and we also see more and more bathrooms with strong wood accents.
We have asked two design professionals to weigh up this trend and find out how you can include more wood decoration in your home.

Why we see a shift from metallics to wood

The biophilic design is very fashionable, and although the term “biophilia” could be new, it is not our need to connect to nature. Natural materials, especially wood, blur the boundaries between interior and out, and that makes it so appealing for all of our senses. In addition, wood offers a cozy warmth that cool metals simply couldn't keep up.
“This shift combines the growing appetite for biophilic and wealthy design thanks to people who are demanding for texture, warmth and a feeling of connection with nature in their houses,” says Maria Ramirez, founder and main native architect at BB Interiors. “Wood delivers all of this and with far more soul than Chrome could ever.”

How to include wood in your home

Wooden floors, wood paneling and large wooden furniture are great options if you carry out a complete or even partially renovation. That means it is not always practical or affordable to do this. Fortunately, according to experts, there are easier ways to bring in wood accents.
Ramirez recommends starting with wooden images, a sculptural lamp base or the metal handles for wood to soften the room.
According to Brittny button, founder and lead interior architect at the Atelier button, wooden stools and benches in the house in the house can flow with warmth. Button recommends finding vintage versions, saving the costs and adding the course and depth – these notches, scratches and aged look can cover a long way.
And you don't have to stick to the same wood tone in a room.
“Don't be afraid to mix different colored pieces of wood in the same room. It creates a diversified and increased look,” says Button. “The key is to ensure that the furniture is in a similar stylistic vein.”
Advantages of decoration with wood

Regardless of whether your design style tends the modern, minimalist or full -grown maximist from the middle of the century, wood can work for you.
“There is a lot of versatility with the types and colors of colorful Woods, and the applications are endless,” says Button. Not many other materials offer so much variety and adaptability.
Wanting a house that feels warm and inviting is a wish that we all share, and wood gives us this feeling in abundance.
“The grain has a nice quality and it brings a warming presence with it. Something different materials simply cannot imitate,” says Button.
Why wood stays here

In contrast to other materials, wood is not just a design element, but so much more.
“Wood speaks for something deeper, something instinctive,” says Ramirez. “Trends may come and go, but the longing for calm, comfort and connection in our houses is forever.”
While the design trends often change, wood is timeless and never really gets out of fashion. Certain types of wooden furniture and some types of wood may go in fashion, but overall, designers agree that this material is always a welcome addition to every room.
