Turkey faces major disorders, since 4000 hotels were suddenly closed after a procedure against the licensing. Inspections showed that 17% of the hotels in the whole of Türkiye are unprepared with many travelers without the necessary tourism operating license and arrive in Turkey to ward off their hotels.

The procedure follows Kartelkaya Fire
The authorities increased the inspections in the entire hotel sector after a catastrophic fire in a ski area in Kartalkaya, which demanded 78 years. However, inspections that focused on fire protection also showed a mass license problem. During the inspections, the authorities found that they did not operate as part of the “Tourism Operations License”, which they worked exclusively under the “municipal license”, which is not a valid replacement. Further administrative deficiency and residue permits create bureaucratic delays, which causes hotels to close their doors when they are waiting for approval. These thorough inspections aim to strengthen trust in the Turkish tourism industry and prevent other tragedies.

A lost season for Turkey
Serdar KarcilioğluHonorary President of the The Bodrum Professional Hotel Managers Association (Boyd) claims that the disorders have already claimed that this year's tourist season was responsible for the inactivity of the ministry and the lack of willingness. He explained:
“Only around 200 of the 4,000 Shuttered Hotels can be able to maintain and open their licenses again. The rest are either closed or illegal. They are not only hoteliers who are injured, tourists and local economies will also suffer.”
The disorders lead to a threat to the tourism industry and the risk hotels that work illegally while waiting for approval. The authorities also have a lack of workforce for inspections that lead to further delays in obtaining licenses.

The future of Turkish tourism
Although Turkey causes a short -term disorder, it strives for the tourism industry in the long term. The authorities take action with mass development, which mainly affect Istanbul, although the constitutional court canceles legal reasons for some enforcement measures. These disorders could have an important problem for the economy, with tourism being a cornerstone for Turkey, which affects the regional economy and is noticeable.

Tourists who travel to Turkey this summer should check the licensing of the hotels before traveling. The authorities recommend contacting tourist offices or travel agencies to receive support if they should provide the hotels' closings. Let us know what you think below!
