Triplex Cinema announces renovation plans for the outdoor terrace

Great Barrington – The Triplex Cinema today announced plans for a newly designed outdoor terrace, which will be a multi-purpose community area that replaces the existing terrace and its surrounding wall, which is in danger of collapsing. The new terrace is used for Triplex events, including food, sociability, receptions outdoor and demonstrations as well as staged readings, appearances and music. The terrace, according to the Hosokawa family, which has been referred to as a “narrow river” since the reopening of Triplex in 2023.

“The name Hosoi Kawa literally means a narrow river in Japanese and combines Hosoi (narrow) and Kawa (river),” said Beverly Hosokawa. “In Japanese culture, rivers are deeply symbolic and represent the flow of life, inconsistency and calm strength. A narrow river indicates a more focused journey – a peaceful reflection, intention and calm beauty in simplicity.”

“This terrace is inspired by the values described by Beverly Hosokawa and deliberately developed for the promotion of connections in the community and beyond,” said patio designer Carrie Chen. “It is a room to collect, break and share – where conversations such as water flow and the community grows through sensible moments.”

“Our terrace is almost 30 years old and urgently needs a renovation,” said Nicki Wilson, former president of the Triplex board, who worked on this project with both Ms. Hosokawa and Ms. Chen. “This design for the terrace represents a big step forward for the” new “triplex. We are grateful for their generosity compared to Triplex and Carrie for their time and brilliant design.”

Wilson added: “This room will be the triplex in relation to our ability to hold a variety of events and the community is also available for a number of uses.”
