From January 31, the user Experience Design Society, also known as the UX Design Society, took part in a 3-day competition entitled “The Rice Design-A-Thon”.

The rice design a-thon was facilitated by Rice University, where each group should develop an app design.

This was a virtual event in which the BYU-IDAHO design team was asked to “remain human at the age of AI”.

The design team then had three days to create an app that resembled the command prompt, while he competed against 400 different teams across the country.

Taleena Woodruff, an officer of society, explained how her team developed the prompt.

“We decided that they tried to make this idea that we had to establish human connection,” said Woodruff. “We have to stay human while our technology is developing faster and faster.”

In the following days, the group spent hours and together to put together the app.

“We were on the campus on Saturday until 12:30 p.m. on Sunday morning from 12:30 p.m. Said Woodruff.

Ruby Ruan, the Vice President of the Society, explained the purpose of the design of her app.

“We created this app to help people who really get involved with AI and the Internet world,” said Ruan. “So that you can take a breath, take a break and just connect to this world. That is the purpose of the app. “

The app is called “Mindful Adventure” and enables you to face a simple daily challenge to think about your day and your mind. As soon as a challenge is completed and recorded in the app, an image of a flower is irrigated, which grows the spirit of the user.

Woodruff said that designing the app lasted the group for about 24 hours.

On the website of Byui Majors it says: “UX/UI cutting designer work with others to create usable interfaces for apps, software, websites and video games.”

The UX Design Society holds every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Jacob Spori Building Room 353. The company will often have guest speakers with experience in this area. They offer workshops to learn how to use different software for design, and portfolio reviews in which the students can share their work and give each other feedback.

Ruan described why she likes to be a UX designer and a member of society.

“It's not just about creating an app or creating a website,” said Ruan. “They solve real problems. They not only make things look pretty, but also make it users users and make their lives less stressful. It really makes sense for me to make people's lives better, as well as all people in society. “

The company is looking for more members who join its team, and it is often 7 to 14 people.

“They are low missions, everyone is cold, there is often food and the worst scenario, they learn something,” said Woodruff.

Students who are interested in society can take place on Wednesdays on meetings and stop by the side “Mindful Adventure” app design.
