Uzbekistan plans to align the donor meeting of the Global Environment Facility (FEF) in 2026, said the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abduhakimov at the Samarkand International Climate Forum.
“Holding the meeting will strengthen cooperation with the donor countries and help mobilize additional means and technical support for Central Asian states,” said Abduhakimov.
In addition, Uzbekistan will organize several important international and regional environmental events.
The first Eco Expo Central Asia will take place on June 19 in Taschkent and focuses on environmental education and ecotourism, green cities and transport, green energy and finances as well as on clean-tech solutions and the best available technologies.
In the meantime, Samarkand will organize the 20th conference of the parties (COP20) of the convention for international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora (Cites).
“COP20 in Samarkand will offer the possibility of discussions about sustainability, the legality of international trade, preserving species and sustainable resource management. The convention remains one of the most powerful global instruments for protecting wild animals by regulating trade in almost 41,000 artists of animals and plants,” emphasized Abduhakimov.
These upcoming events were discussed during the podium meeting of the climate gate in Central Asia with the challenges of the Triple Planetary Crisis.
The meeting dealt with important topics such as the weakening of climate change on ecosystems, the preservation of endangered species and their habitats, the prevention of environmental damage from air, water and soil pollution, promoting sustainable management of natural resources and improving regional cooperation in the establishment of protection areas and the implementation of international trust.
An important strategy for overcoming the Triple Planetary Crisis is to create cross -border protection areas and to start regional nature conservation programs.
Strengthening the cooperation in the preservation of biological diversity, the control of environmental pollution and climate adaptation will ensure long -term sustainability of ecosystems, preserve important resources and improve economic stability in the entire region, the Ecology Ministry explained.
