Waterloo receives 3 million US dollar federal grant for storm channel carriers | News

Waterloo – The efforts of the village to improve rainwater management and the reduction of the floods were given a thrust this week from the Northern Border regional commission.

The Commission awarded the village with a grant of 3 million US dollars to improve the storm channel infrastructure, road drainage, sidewalks and containment in order to improve resilience to frequent floods and to support the efforts to revitalize the city center.

The upgrades complement the scholarship of the 10 million dollar Downtown Revitalization Initiative of the village, which aims to improve the economic stability, the safety of pedestrians and rainwater management.

The commission subsidy was announced by US Sens. Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., and Kirsten Gillibrand, DN.Y., as part of 12.3 million US dollars in federal financing for 14 projects in the state of New York.

“These federal investments will help create new jobs, strengthen our infrastructure, to expand health care and to increase the quality of life in the entire region,” said Schumer in a press release.

“These federal investments will support essential upgrades for the infrastructure, expand access to health care, create jobs and promote economic growth throughout the state of New York.”

The NBRC, founded in 2008, is a partnership between the state that focuses on the economic revitalization of municipalities in the northern border region, which includes New York, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The Commission consists of the governors of the four northern border states and a co-chair of the federal government.

The northern border region of New York comprises 30 counties, including Seneca, Wayne and Yates.
