If you thought that warehouses are a plague in the landscape, call your community and ask what the plan for data centers is. Because they are on the way.
Tobyhanna Township is currently considering changes in her zoning regulations to enable data centers and an owner of the owner hopes to attract one in the head areas of Swiftwater Creek.
That is a big deal. Not because it means good jobs – it doesn't.
With the exception of pre -tanning work, data centers need very few employees.
It is a big deal because a large data center can use 5,000,000 gallons water a day.
You read that correctly: five million gallons a day.
Data centers must keep all of these hyperenergie-hoog computers cool.
To do this, use water that evaporates into the atmosphere and is lost for us.
Regardless of whether the water is pumped out of the ground for cooling on site or comes from the regional authority of Brodhead Creek, it is that it deteriorates our water catchment areas.
So the big question is: what do you do to get water? Will you in particular use a cooling system with a closed circuit?
Systems with zero water or closed grinding can drastically reduce or eliminate the evaporation.
As soon as the system is filled with water, it constantly moves the water between the hot devices and air coolers, the accumulated warmth – without continuously pulling in more fresh water.
Big Data Centers also consume 200 to 500 acres of land.
You may not really take care of the loss of forested land, natural habitat, bears, deer, fishing and bird life.
However, the risk of safe, abundant drinking water should all make everyone upset and draw attention.
Water is essential for life. And it belongs to all of us.
