Wheeling, W.Va. – The Wheeling StreetScape project changes the local restaurant scene and enables restaurants to offer outdoor seating.
The design of 32 million US dollars brings new life to the area, just as summer is approaching.
“There is a completely different experience for our guests,” said Jason Miller, co -owner of River City. “What we will now be able to offer a happy hour and Acoustic Act.
The renovation work, which includes ada-compliant curb, extended sidewalks and decorative masonry along the street and market roads, are intended to improve the attractiveness of the city.
“For me, the outdoor seating means there is a feeling of belonging,” said Diner Benjamin Henderson. “To really experience the wheeling weather and show how beautiful our city really is.”
“I hope everyone is outside this summer,” said Doug Carl, co -owner of the Bridge Tavern & Grill. “The city of the Wheeling passed Poda (private outdoor area) Ordinance. So you can now go in the northern part of the city in the leisure walk between the southern part of the city. Maybe with a cold drink in your hand. And everything is on bet. But you have the waterfront.
The project will also add decorative traffic signals, plants and trees and further improve the city's aesthetics.
“Hopefully it will be so busy again, because it seems that things are going around. Especially in summer,” said Drew Gonchoff, who paints a mural in Bridge Tavern.
The renovation work for the street scene is expected to be completed by October and promises a lively future for the city center of Wheeling.
